Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
