Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of comforts accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
