Cambodia Casinos

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of conveniences on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
