There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features many conveniences on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
